Dr. Derevensky is currently Professor Emeritus in School/Applied Child Psychology and Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychiatry, McGill University and Director, McGill University’s International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High Risk Behaviors. He has held multiple academic administrative positions including Associate Dean, Department Chair, Program Director and James McGill Professor. He has been working as a researcher, clinician, trainer, and consultant in the field of gambling studies and behavioral disorders for over 35 years. Dr. Derevensky is author or co-editor of 4 books on gambling disorders; 60+ book chapters; 275+ peer-reviewed publications in leading scientific journals; and has been an invited speaker or keynote speaker at more than 300 international conferences. Dr. Derevensky has provided expert witness testimony internationally and has been a research reviewer for numerous funding agencies internationally. He has been the recipient of numerous international awards, including that from the National Center on Responsible Gaming (now ICRG), the National Council on Problem Gambling (U.S.), and several state awards. He is a member of the expert panel for the National Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) and the World Lottery Association (WLA) and is a member of the International Advisory Panel for the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Alcohol, Drug and Other Addictive Behaviors committee. He is also the designated member with expertise in gambling, gaming and behavioral disorders for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) studying addiction amongst elite athletes. Dr. Derevensky sits on many editorial boards and has supervised numerous post-doctoral, doctoral, master’s and undergraduate students.
