Clinical Jiu Jitsu for Gambling Disorder

Jiu Jitsu means Gentle Art and Clinical “Jiu Jitsu” is about having the skills to gently consider different angles, timing, and ways to intervene and use tools in the therapeutic process with gambling disorders. Currently, little emphasis is given to clinicians about specific focus areas when working with individuals with gambling disorders. Given today’s advancements in technology and the continued expansion of the gaming industry to online/internet based options, clinicians need to master skills that match these new advancements. Dr. Alyssa Wilson, Ph.D., BCBA-D, LBA and Jody Bechtold, LCSW, ICGC-II, BACC will highlight three focus areas and aligned Clinical Jiu Jitsu techniques clinicians will benefit from when working with individuals with gambling disorders: generational characteristics, finances and technology. Attendees will also learn more about the author’s book, “The Gambling Disorder Treatment Handbook: A Guide for Mental Health Professionals” and how it is intended to increase gambling counseling clinical skills.
