Using Functional Behavior Assessments to Enhance Clinical Interventions for Gambling Disorders

Minimal attention has been provided on how to best identify functional relations for individuals with gambling disorders. Identification of functional relationships is needed to maximize the clinical utility of treatment. Therefore, the current presentation will focus on a) evidenced-based approaches to identifying functional relationships, b) how to infuse functional behavior assessments into clinical practice, and c) clinical case conceptualization strategies to effectively use functional behavior assessments across a range of treatment modalities. Empirical evidence collected to date from Dr. Wilson’s gambling research will be presented to highlight how functional behavior assessments can impact clinical practice.
